What impacts will a new ferry have on the movement of people in the city? What considerations need to be made about building a new terminal close to the shore? What considerations need to be made to encourage the use of the ferry? What considerations should be made about the type and design of the ferry? How should it operate? What impacts will it have on other vessels using the Halifax Harbour?Ĭhallenge Stream #3 Theme: Around the Water While the city is evaluating options today, provide evaluations and ideas for different solutions. Your challenge is to explore the future Bedford Ferry. How do we know what impact a new ferry will have underwater? What impacts can we expect to anything living in the water? Are there measurements we need to consider now and in the future to ensure we have the right ferry?

Each stream can be used to explore different types of data, for example: “Under the Water” can explore salinity, temperature, eDNA data, “On the Water” can include wind speed and wave height data or other vessels, and “Around the Water” can explore the movement of people and reduction in GHG emissions.Ĭhallenge Stream #1 Theme: Under the Water Individuals and teams will be asked to choose one stream and provide interdisciplinary ideas for helping understand the options of the Bedford Ferry.

The challenge is broken down into three Challenge Streams: Under the Water, On the Water, and Around the Water. Not to mention more than $2,000 in prizes! This is a fantastic way to show off your design, programming or other talents. This challenge allows you to work at your own pace to explore ways to learn about ocean data, meet others with the same interests and bring together unique skills to create a team. The Challenge concludes one week later, on Tuesday, Novemwith presentations from participants to our panel of judges.
